Record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa cruised to a 2-0 victory over Mbarara City FC in the Uganda Premier League contest at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Thursday.

Frank Ssebuufu and Najib Yiga netted in either half to secure a fifth win of the season for the Jogoos.

Ssebuufu headed Villa into the lead in the 10th minute when he reacted to a rebound after Aslam Ssemakula’s long-range effort hit the crossbar.

The visitors did not bow down as they created several scoring opportunities in search of an equaliser.

SC Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago made several crucial saves to keep the score in their favour, with the most notable coming against Muhammad Kanyike in the 68th minute, producing an important save to deny him from close range.

Lukwago didn’t finish the game after he was forced off in the 70th minute and replaced by Hassan Matovu.

Substitute Najib Yiga doubled Villa’s lead after capitalizing on a defensive error from Mbarara City.

SC Villa move to second place with 17 points from seven matches, while Mbarara City remain 14th with five points from six games.
