Shaun Murphy snatched a thrilling final-frame victory over Judd Trump to reach the semi-finals of the English Open.

World number seven Murphy moved 5-4 ahead before Trump, the world number three, cleared 112 to take the match to a decider.

Murphy managed to overcome his English compatriot in a nervy final frame, helped by some deft safety play, to set up a semi-final against Mark Williams.

Williams withstood a fightback from fellow Welshman Liam Davies to book his spot in the semi-finals with a 6-3 victory.

Williams was level at 2-2 at the interval but pulled clear and eventually sealed his victory with a 112 clearance.

England’s Kyren Wilson was left scoreless in the first three frames as Ding Junhui cruised to a 6-2 victory.

Wilson briefly threatened a comeback, winning the next two frames to reduce the deficit to 3-2, but China’s Ding quickly regained control and took the final three frames to seal his place in the final four.

Ding will face Ali Carter in the semi-finals, who produced an excellent late display to edge past Zhou Yuelong 6-5 by winning three frames in a row.

Zhou had been leading 5-3, but Carter was able to turn it around from frame nine onwards, making the most of Zhou missing a routine yellow, then winning the next 80-39 before dominating in the decider.

Both semi-finals take place on Saturday, with Ding taking on Carter at 12:00 BST before Murphy faces Williams at 18:00.
