Mbarara City FC have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season with the double signing of goalkeeper Bashir Ssekagya from Vipers SC and central defender Bright Vuni from URA FC.
The Ankole Lions confirmed the arrivals on Friday, with both players penning contracts.
Ssekagya, who struggled for game time at Kitende behind the Venoms’ established custodians, joins Mbarara City in search of regular first-team football. The shot-stopper is known for his reflexes and command of the area and is expected to provide stiff competition for the number one spot at the Ankole Lions.
Vuni, a commanding centre-back, makes the switch from URA after falling down the pecking order at the Tax Collectors. The former Arua Hill and UPDF defender brings much-needed experience, aerial presence and leadership to a Mbarara backline.
The duo become the latest additions for head coach Francis Mugerwa who is rebuilding his side to improve on last season’s performances and mount a push for a top-eight place in the expanded 18-team, 34-game format.
They could make their
debuts on Saturday when Mbarara City travel to face Police FC at Kira Police Arena, Kamwokya in their opening fixture.
The duo joins other new recruits at the club who are Brian Aheebwa, Rogers Mugisha, Ivan Bogere, Eric Tumwine, Iran Musunguzi, Akoragye Hassan, Solomon Okwalinga and Mahad Rashid.
