Centenary Bank reiterated its support for sports development and community initiatives in Uganda following the successful conclusion of the 2026 Masaza Cup tournament, which saw the historic County ofKyaggwe emerge champions after defeating Gomba 1-0 in the final.

The final, held at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, was graced by the King of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. Kyaggwe secured their first-ever MasazaCup title since the tournament resumed in 2004 thanks to a second-half goal by Kato George Isingoma.

Centenary Bank has supported the Masaza Cup for the past 13 years, contributing UGX 200 million in sponsorship for this year’s tournament. The Bank also recognised individual excellence by awarding the tournament’s top scorer, Kasule Mohamed, with UGX 1 million for his outstanding performance and Herbert Masaba for best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

Speaking about the Bank’s participation, Centenary Bank’sManaging Director, Godfrey Byekwaso, said the Masaza Cup provides an important platform for nurturing young talent, promoting unity and preserving Buganda’s cultural heritage.

“Sports play an important role in bringing communities together and creating opportunities for young people to showcase their talents. The Masaza Cup has grown beyond a football tournament to become a platform that promotes unity, identifies emerging talent and gives young people an opportunity to pursue their ambitions. As a Bank, we are proud to be part of this journey and to continue supporting an initiative that has such a positive impact on communities,” Byekwaso said.

The 13 years of Centenary Bank’s support to the Masaza Cup makes it one of its longstanding partnerships in sports development. The Bank’s relationship with the Kingdom of Buganda also extends to other initiatives, including the CBS Kaliisoliiso Dinner that fundraises for the Nkozi Hospital Accident and Trauma Centre Construction, the Kabaka Birthday Run and engagements with the Buganda Land Board.

As an indigenous financial institution, Centenary Bank values its association with the Kingdom and recognises the role of cultural institutions in promoting community development, environmental conservation and social progress.

The Bank’s support for the Masaza Cup is part of its broader contribution to initiatives that advance education, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, financial inclusion and community development across Uganda. Every year, Centenary Bank allocates 1.5% of its previous year’s profits to support community initiatives across these areas.

For over a decade, the Masaza Cup has grown into a powerful platform for identifying and nurturing football talent while fostering unity and cultural heritage across the Kingdom. The tournament attracts thousands of supporters and provides young players with an opportunity to showcase their abilities on a competitive stage.
