Gulu City hosted the inaugural Friends of Boxing Intercity Fight Night with team Kampala edging Gulu at Bomah Hotel in Gulu on Friday, 31st July 2026.

Irene Kyaviro gave team Kampala its first victory with her triumph over Phoebe Lamaro in a bantamweight 4-round battle.

David GOMBEGulu City hosted the inaugural Friends of Boxing Intercity Fight Night with team Kampala edging Gulu at Bomah Hotel in Gulu on Friday, 31st July 2026.

The second fight was between Faisal Ashinda Jr who defeated Innocent Odur in a super featherweight contest in 4 rounds.

David Okao handed Gulu it’s first victory with a unanimous decision win over Michael Lukwago Seruwu in the welterweight 4-round fight. Norbert Jerry Kakanyero unanimously levelled matters for Gulu with a win over Ismail Kibirige, in a super welterweight duel.

The Super bantamweight contest between Gulu’s Ronald Kakanyero ended in a stalemate with Joseph Katabi after 6 rounds.

Gulu’s experienced Sarah Laker Katongole put Gulu 3-2 up, with a great performance over Marion Akankunda in a super lightweight contest.

Bienfaint Shetebo equalised for Kampala after a tough contest with Jimmy Odong in a 6-round super featherweight duel.

Jessica Nakiridde, arguably the best female fighter of the night, dominated Gulu’s Sharon Lakica to restore Kampala’s lead to 4-3 in a super bantamweight 4-rounder.

Cruiserweight fighter Ronnie Wandera scored the first Knockout of the night when he stopped Gulu’s Alfred Oryang in the second round of 4 rounds to extend Kampala’s lead 5-3.

Sowali Sentongo sealed Kampala’s victory at 6-3 after taming the stubborn Lucky Ogenrwot in a super bantamweight 6-rounder.

The co-main fight that drew the most anticipation ended in a controversial draw between rising star Ronald Duku (Gulu) and the experienced Ivan Magumba. The judgement led to protests from Gulu fans, who claimed that Duku had overcame Magumba.

Gulu’s Kenneth Kaunda won the main fight in under 2 rounds of the 8 round fight against Yakubu Magumba. Defeated Magumba spent several minutes protesting his corner’s decision to throw in the towel in the second round as Gulu fans celebrated their triumph.

The event was attended by Gulu’s sports officers Braxton Ojara and Robert Okot, Uganda Professional Boxing Commission President Eddie Bazira and Fortebet’s Alex Muhangi.

FOB’s head of marketing and development Frank Lulinda was contented that the maiden event happened and stated that they plan to organise more events in several regions across the country.
