Centenary Bank, the leading commercial microfinance bank, has reaffirmed its commitment to community development and youth empowerment through sportsmanship with a sponsorship package worth UGX 200 million for the 22nd edition of the Masaza Cup tournament.
The contribution was announced at Bulange, Mengo, during the official launch of the 2026 Masaza Cup, one of Uganda’s most celebrated sporting and cultural events that continues to unite communities across the Buganda Kingdom through football, talent development, and cultural pride.
Speaking at the launch, Michael Opira, Executive Director Operations, Centenary Bank, said that the Bank’s continued support for the tournament reflects its commitment to creating opportunities that uplift communities and empower young people.
“This tournament has become a platform for young talent to shine and transform their lives for the better through sports. This is made more impactful with the tournament’s goal of fighting to end HIV/AIDS by 2030,” he said.
The Uganda National Institute of Public Health estimates that the HIV prevalence among young people aged 15 to 24 years currently reaches 9.1%. Through sports, the message of how to prevent new infections can easily be delivered to the youth and bring the goal of the tournament closer to success.
For over a decade, the Masaza Cup has grown into a powerful platform for identifying and nurturing football talent while fostering unity and cultural heritage across the Kingdom. The tournament attracts thousands of supporters and provides young players with an opportunity to showcase their abilities on a competitive stage.
Centenary Bank’s sponsorship will support the successful organization of the tournament and contribute towards enhancing the experience for players, fans, and participating counties throughout the competition.

Our support for the tournament is now more than 12 years old, and we are continuing our journey with you. Together, we have established a firm partnership involving initiatives with the kingdom, such as the CBS Kalisoliso Dinner, Kabaka Birthday Run, engagements with the Buganda Land Board and many others. This highlights our commitment to community development, sustainability, and cultural heritage.” Opira added.
The Bank’s support for the Masaza Cup forms part of its broader commitment to investing in initiatives that advance education, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, financial inclusion, and community development across Uganda. Every year, Centenary Bank commits 1.5% of its previous year’s profits towards supporting initiatives that uplift communitiessuch as these.
The 22nd edition of the Masaza Cup is expected to attract significant participation from counties across the Kingdom and thousands of football enthusiasts, reaffirming its position as one of the country’s premier sporting competitions. This year’s opening game is going to take place on Saturday 13th June, 2026 at Mubende NTC with last year’s winners Buweekula facing Kyaddondo.
