The National Boxing team, the Bombers, continues with preparations for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games due next month.
The Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi and National Council of Sports officials led by assistant general secretary Milton Chebet paid a courtesy visit to the team at the Hamz Nakivubo Stadium on Wednesday.
The six-member team will under the stewardship of Twaibu Mayanja will be captained by Bate Nuhu (Welterweight 65Kg).
Muhangi hailed NCS and Hamz Stadium management team for the two months the team has been in camp.
“I take this opportunity to thank National Council of Sports for the support that has seen the spend two months in camp. This is the best national team camp we have ever had. For over two months, the team has trained without any inconveniences.”
“I thank the management of Hamz Stadium for providing a classy environment to our national team and I believe we shall scoop medals in Glasgow.” Said Muhangi
Milton Chebet applauded UBF for the training camp and revealed that athletes who will smile to medals at the games will be rewarded by the government.
“The level of preparation speaks volumes. As government, we have put everything in place to ensure the team competes effectively,” he said, adding that athletes will be handsomely rewarded—UGX 100 million for gold, UGX 50 million for silver, and UGX 30 million for bronze.” He noted
UBF boss Muhangi also promised Shs3M for every boxer who will deliver gold, Shs2M for Silver and Shs1M for Bronze.
The others boxers on the team are Katushabe Angel (Flyweight), Emily Nakalema(Welterweight, 65kg),Aziz Ringo (Heavyweight), Alfred Ojok (Light Heavyweight) and Khemis Ibrahim (Lightweight, 60kg). The Glasgow Games are scheduled forJuly 23 to August 2.
The team will have a residential camp before departure to the Commonwealth Games due in Glasgow, Scotland.
