Football excitement turned into disappointment at Mashaka Playground in Kisoro district after Western Region League second placed side Six O’Clock FC failed to show up for their highly anticipated fixture against table leaders Mutolere SC (SC Volcanoes).
The no show left hundreds of fans frustrated, with many questioning the commitment of some teams in the league while Others called on the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to enforce stricter measures including financial penalties, to promote professionalism and ensure only serious teams are registered.
SC Volcanoes arrived at their home ground on time, reaching Mashaka at exactly 3:00 PM ahead of the scheduled 4:00 PM kickoff, However, by 3:35 PM, there was still no sign of their closest title rivals, Six O’Clock fc. In an effort to engage the waiting fans, the Kisoro based side split into two teams and held an exhibition match, with coaches also taking part to entertain the crowd.
According to FUFA regulations, a team that fails to honour a fixture forfeits the match, awards the opponent three points and a 3–0 victory.
With no formal communication from Six O’Clock regarding their absence, SC Volcanoes are set to benefit from their match absence.
The possible free points result lifts SC Volcanoes to 42 points with a goal tally of 35, further strengthening their position at the top of the table as the season approaches its final stages. Six O’Clock remain in second place with 32 points and a goal difference of +14 from 14 matches played.
With the hundreds of sports enthusiasts for the big top table leaders clash,Fans expressed concern over what they described as a growing trend of teams failing to fulfil fixtures.
One supporter termed the situation unprofessional warning that repeated incidents could damage the reputation of the league.
Another one, urged FUFA to introduce tougher sanctions beyond awarding free points, including fines, to deter teams from missing matches without valid reasons.
With only a few fixtures remaining this season, attention now shifts to the weekend schedule as SC Volcanoes set to face Rwampara Bulls away from home, while Six O’Clock are expected to travel to Makenke Barracks both on 2nd may 2026
