    WESTERN REGIONAL LEAGUE: Volcanoes eye coronation as Kihihi seek to avoid relegation

    The Western Region League is drumskined tightened with teams fighting to avoid relegation zone after points difference ties with Mutolere Sc (Sc volcanoes) readily to lift the trophy

    As the Western Region League approaches its dramatic climax, SC Volcanoes (Mutolere SC) are set to officially be crowned champions after today’s Saturday May 9th, 2026, in a highly anticipated derby clash against fellow Kisoro side Gorilla Highlands Sports Club at Mashaka Playground .

    Kick off is scheduled for 4:00 PM, with FUFA delegates expected to preside over the official trophy handover function in what promises to be a historic and celebratory afternoon for the home fans.

    SC Volcanoes head into this fixture in dominant fashion, sitting comfortably at the top of the table with 45 points and a staggering +39 goal difference from 15 matches. Their performance has been unquestionable this season, including a ruthless 6-0 victory over Gorilla Highlands in the first leg played on February 15th, 2026.

    Despite that heavy defeat earlier in the season, Gorilla Highlands return with pride and purpose as Currently placed 5th with 14 points and a goal difference, they remain firmly in the hunt for a top four finish. However, they face stiff competition from Makenke Barracks FC, who also have 14 points but trail slightly on goal differences.

    The battle for the top four is fiercely contested with Rwenshama FC, currently 4th with 18 points and a -3 goal difference, are within touching distance and could be overtaken if  should they slip in their upcoming fixture.

    In Just below, Mbarara FC (14 points), Kabale City FC (14points), and Asante Sports Club (12 points) are all locked in a tense survival and qualification fight, with only a one to two and three point gap separating positions 4th to 9th.

    At the upper end of the table, Six O’clock FC sit 2nd with 33 points (+11), while Rwampara Bulls occupy 3rd place with 25 points (+8), both trailing far behind the runaway leaders.

    Meanwhile, the relegation zone remains a struggle, with Kyihihi Young Boys rooted at the bottom, having managed just 4 points and a -15 goal difference in 11 matches and Rukungiri United fc which was eliminated from western regional league after exceeding missing of three games according to FUFA laws.

    Mbarara fc vs Rwampara bulls at Kakyeka stadium  4pm.

    Kabale city fc vs Kyihihi young boys fc 4pm Kabale municipal stadium.

    Gorilla highlands sports club vs Mutolere Sc(Sc volcanoes)4pm Mashaka playgrounds.

    Tommorrow 10th Sunday 2026.

    Asante fc vs Rwenshama 4pm St. Joseph’s voc. Playgrounds.

    Meanwhile kisoro football enthusiasm will take all roads to Mashaka playgrounds for the western region league derby rivals at Mashaka playgrounds where FUFA is expected to hand over the trophy to Sc volcanoes
