Manchester Super Giants won by seven wickets
Manchester Super Giants chased a target of 81 in just 59 balls as they thrashed London Spirit by seven wickets in The Hundred.
Ryana MacDonald-Gay took 4-17 as Super Giants bowled out Spirit with nine balls to spare at Lord’s, before the visiting batters completed their chase for the loss of just three wickets.
Spirit were in immediate trouble after being putting in to bat in their opening fixture, losing openers Grace Harris and Amy Jones for four and a golden duck.
MacDonald-Gay removed Marie Kelly and Marizanne Kapp, who top-scored with 17, while Deandra Dottin was bowled by Sophie Ecclestone for four.
Home captain Charlie Dean was one of only four batters to make it into double figures, reaching 14 before she was run out, with the innings coming to an early conclusion as MacDonald-Gay had Katie George caught behind for eight.
Super Giants, playing their first match under their new name having spent five years as Manchester Originals, made steady work chasing their low target.
Smriti Mandhana and captain Meg Lanning put on 33 for the opening wicket, before the former was trapped lbw by Kapp for 17.
Kapp struck with the next delivery, bowling Grace Scrivens, but Paige Scholfield survived the hat-trick ball.
Lanning was caught off Hannah Rainey for 21, but Richa Ghosh (15 not out off five) and Scholfield (22 off 15) swiftly finished the job, with the latter hitting a back-to-back four and six to win the game.
