Mbarara City recorded their second win of the league campaign with a 1-0 victory over reigning champions Vipers SC, who were beginning life after Denis Lavagne.
The Venoms, under the stewardship of John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda, were seeking a perfect response to their frustrating stalemate with Police FC last Friday.
The Ankole Lions came into the contest desperate for maximum points, having registered just one win all season.
Gaddafi Kacancu gave the home side the lead in the 30th minute after being fed by Rogers Mugisha.
Usama Arafat came close to levelling matters for the visitors, but his effort was blocked.
Mbarara City’s Ian Amanya also had his long-range shot saved by Vipers goalkeeper Loyce Mbaba.
In the second period, the home side were reduced to ten men after Mugisha was shown marching orders for a second bookable offence.
Mbarara City held on to secure all three points at Rwamwanja Stadium, Kamwenge.
Vipers stay on 11 points and will next travel to Sam Ssimbwa’s URA FC on Saturday, while Mbarara City move to eight points.
