She Cranes crowned Queens of Africa after thrilling final win over South Africa

Uganda’s Senior Women’s Netball Team, the She Cranes, have won the Africa Netball Cup after edging rivals South Africa 56-53 in a pulsating final held on Saturday.
In a repeat of the previous edition’s final, the Ugandan side showed grit, composure and championship mentality to dethrone the Proteas and reclaim continental supremacy.
The closely contested final lived up to its billing, with both sides exchanging leads throughout the four quarters. Uganda held their nerve in the final minutes to seal the three-goal victory and lift the coveted trophy.
The victory brings the Netball World Cup Sydney 2027 Qualifier – Africa to a close.
Malawi and Namibia have joined pre-qualified South Africa and Uganda at the Netball World Cup 2027.
South Africa had already qualified as hosts, while Uganda had secured qualification earlier by virtue of their world ranking. Malawi and Namibia took the two additional slots available from the qualifiers.
The triumph marks another historic chapter for Ugandan netball, with the She Cranes reaffirming their status as one of Africa’s powerhouse sides ahead of the global showpiece in Sydney.
