Villa confirmed his demise on Wednesday afternoon in a statement which reads,
“SC Villa Football Club is devastated to confirm the death of its Club Captain, David Owori, following a brutal attack by unknown individuals.
The Club commiserates with David’s family, teammates, friends, supporters, and the entire football fraternity during this painful moment. David was a valuable player, leader, and servant of the game whose loss is deeply felt by both the Club and the nation. SC Villa undertakes to stand with the family and to ensure that David is accorded a decent and dignified send-off. We also call upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently pursue, apprehend, and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime. This senseless act has robbed the Club and the country of a committed captain and a promising sportsman, and it must not go unanswered.”
Owori has been one of the longest serving members at the record league champions and has featured for a number of clubs in Uganda as Nsambya, Proline and Vipers SC.
He also played for Bukedi Province in the FUFA inter-provinces tournament (FUFA Drum).
Popularly known as Colgate, he also played for Spanish fourth division entity, Velez Club de Futbol before returning to Villa. On his return to Villa he helped the side end a 20-year drought without winning the league title during the 2023/24 season.
May his soul rest in Eternal Peace
