Former Burkina Faso striker Aristide Bance was pictured with sports minister Peter Ogwang following Uganda’s 1-0 victory over Libya at Hoima City stadium.
Many football followers were left in awe asking what could have lured the former Mainz striker to interest himself in watching Uganda’s AFCON qualifier against Libya clad in the Cranes’ home strip.
During their weekly YouTube show dubbed “The sports round up” on Uganda fan TV, Sky Boss and Yakubu Rama revealed that Aristide Bance using his connections with Cranes head coach Paul helped in convincing a host of the “heritage players” to join Uganda despite of the fact that many have strong attachments to West Africa.
They further revealed that Bance being a football agent in West Africa played a key role in the acquisition of players like Kingdom Osayi, Owusu Boateng, Arnold Vula, Souleyman Diaby, Dieumande Gaucho Debohi and Akpan David Udoh.
FUFA’s move was received with mixed reactions in the football circles with many critics believing that the home grown talent will be frustrated by the new recruits. Others believe that these players are only as good as mercenaries whose loyalty will be put to test as soon as the shortage in facilitation returns.
