Ugandan professional boxer Catherine Nanziri has stepped up preparations for her upcoming world title fight after officially entering training camp.
The 27-year-old will fight Tanzania’s Halima Vunjabei for the WBA Super Bantam title at the Edge Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya on November 28, 2026, on a fight night that will have nine titles on the line.
Nanziri, who is leaving nothing to chance in her quest for world glory, says the bout is the most important of her career.
“I will be fighting Tanzanian Halima Vunjabei for the WBA Super Bantam title. Her fight record is good. This is an important fight for my career. I have come in camp so as to be in good shape and prepare enough,” Cathy told press.
“Halima is experienced with many bouts but am not scared,” she added.
Friends of Boxing official Frank Lulinda says the camp provides everything Nanziri needs for early preparation.
“This place is more than enough for Cathy as it has everything. As FOB, we facilitated and prepared her for the PST title back in July. Early preparations are good for our ambassador and it gives her time to be in the best shape,” Lulinda noted.
This will be Nanziri’s 10th professional fight. She won the PST title against Tanzanian Husnah Zamba on July 25, 2026.
Her opponent, 31-year-old Halima, will be contesting her 36th bout. The Tanzanian last fought in July when she lost a UBO title fight to Pakistan’s Laura Akram.
Interestingly, both fighters have beaten the same opponents on the continental stage – Egine Kayage, Lulu Kayage, Halima Bandola and Nicholine Achieng.
Halima is the most experienced opponent Nanziri has faced, having fought boxers from Denmark, Pakistan, Russia, Iran, South Korea, United Kingdom, India, Poland, France and Czechia, among others.
The two orthodox-stance pugilists will not be meeting for dinner, but to box for top continental honours in Nairobi.
