FUFA has handed Lugazi FC forward Alfred Leku a five match ban for his conduct in the defeat to Kitara FC last Saturday.
According to FUFA, Leku was found guilty for throwing a water bottle following the climax of the game at Najjembe.
“He was charged with improper conduct and misconduct against a match official after striking the referee with a water bottle, contrary to Rule 48(3) of the FUFA Competition Rules and Article 14(3) of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code.
“The Panel found Alfred Leku guilty of violent conduct against a match official. He has been suspended for five matches from all FUFA-organised competitions, with the sanction taking immediate effect and to be carried over to the 2026/2027 season if not fully served.
The former Vipers and Express striker will also have to pay a fine of Shs500,000.
“Leku has also been fined UGX 500,000, payable before the completion of the suspension, and warned over his future conduct.”
It should be noted that the referee who was in charge of the game, Lucky Kasalirwe’s decision failed to award Lugazi what looked like a genuine penalty when Alvin Birungi was brought down in the forbidden area by Henry Musisi.
Just after the incident, Lugazi’s Richard Ayiko was sent off for a second yellow card before the visitors sealed victory thanks to Muhammad Shaban’s late goal.
Express has also been sanctioned for failing to provide an ambulance that was in a stable condition during their game against NEC on 21st April. The ambulance that was at the venue had mechanical issues and couldn’t transport injured Richard Basangwa.
The Red Eagles will now have to pay Shs1000000 within 14 days and advise to adhere to medical requirements.
