The Uganda U-17 national team (The Cubs) began their CECAFA U-17 Championship 2026 (AFCON U-17 Qualifiers) campaign in emphatic fashion with an 8-0 victory over Burundi on Saturday, 10th October 2026 at the Kigali Pele Stadium.

The victory was inspired by Sebastien Fisher Quinn, who scored a hat-trick, with Arnold Kayemba adding a brace.

Arafat Ibanda, Nicholas Kawooya and Junior Afoyrwoth were also on the scoresheet for the Cubs.

Kayemba gave the Cubs the lead in the 19th minute before sealing his brace moments later to make it 2-0.

Ibanda struck the third in the 34th minute before Kawooya scored the fourth in the 38th minute as Uganda went into the break 4-0 up.

Coach’s substitute Fisher then took over in the second half. The Scottish-born forward, who recently pledged his international future to Uganda, opened his account in the 74th minute before Afoyrwoth scored the 6th with 13 minutes to play.

Fisher then added two more goals in the 84th and 89th minutes to complete his hat-trick and seal a massive victory for Uganda.

Uganda will next play Ethiopia in their second Group game, hoping to seal a semi-final berth early.

Uganda XI: Dean David Ssegirinya (G.K), Martin Parcel Kayiwa, Ukasha Jemba Shafie, Sumaku Mutawakali, Abdallah Wandera, Henry Muhoozi (Captain), Junior Afoyrwoth, Arnold Kayemba, Yusuf Ssenyonga, Arafat Ibanda, Nicholas Kawooya
