Uganda’s James Bogere was the star of the night as Denmark side Aarhus Gymanstikforening won 2-1 against Sabah FK of Azerbaijan in the first leg of the third UEFA Champions League qualifying round.

Bogere struck a brace to give the Danish side a first leg advantage at the Cepheus Park on Wednesday.

David GOMBEUganda’s James Bogere was the star of the night as Denmark side Aarhus Gymanstikforening won 2-1 against Sabah FK of Azerbaijan in the first leg of the third UEFA Champions League qualifying round.

He gave the home side the lead in the 31st minute when he fired the ball into the roof of the net to send the fans to a bouncing frenzy.

Bogere doubled Aarhus’ lead in the 63rd minute before Veljko Simic pulled one back for the visitors four minutes later.

Following the first leg, the two sides will face off next week on Tuesday in Baku to determine the aggregate winner.

The Ugandan starlet opened the scores when he smashed the ball on the edge of the box into the roof of the net to send the home crowd into frenzy just after the hour mark at Cepheus Park.

Bogere joined Aarhus in December last year and has previously turned up for Masaka-based El Cambio Soccer Academy and third-tier Buganda Regional League with Masaka Sunshine Football Club. He made his senior Uganda Cranes national team debut during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
