Sudanese giants Al-Hilal moved three points clear at the top of CAF Champions League Group C following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns on Friday.
Captain Mohamed Abdelrahman opened the scoring from the penalty spot in first-half injury time, before Jean Claude Girumugisha doubled the lead in the 49th minute.
Sundowns substitute Arthur Sales reduced the deficit on the hour mark, but the South Africans could not find an equalizer against a resolute Al-Hilal defense. The result leaves Al-Hilal on eight points after four matches, while Sundowns remain on five points.
The two teams will now turn their focus to the remaining fixtures in February to determine who advances to the knockout stages.
