Uganda Cranes and Young African attacker Allan Okello has revealed the key reason why he didn’t join SC Villa during his early football career.
Okello who recently helped Young Africans retain the Tanzania Premier League title narrated to FUFA TV that he came close to joining SC Villa but his size let him down.
“I didn’t join Villa because I was so small. I and Said Mayanja, we were so small and Villa then, had players with good bodies and size. We were so talented but our size didn’t do us any favours.”
The Cranes attacker adds,
“I remember I went to Villa and my first day for trials at Villa, I didn’t even get the chance to enter the pitch. Me and Mayanja (Said), we just played akayumba (rondos) there. By then, their youth side was under coach Ssozi (Phillip) and he told our coaches (that had taken them for trials) that ‘You have brought me these young kids for what’. They are going to knock them.”
Since then Okello has gone on to feature for SC Villa’s rivals KCCA FC where he won several trophies and Vipers where he also won two league titles.
Okello has also played for Algeria side Paradou AC whom he left in 2023 on mutual consent. He now features for Tanzania giants Young Africans, where he recently won the title scoring 14 league goals, having joined them in the second round of the 2025/26 season.
