The club confirmed Mugerwa’s departure along with his assistant Robert Ssekwayama in a statement released on Monday evening which reads,

David GOMBELugazi Football Club has part company with their head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa who helped them overcome relegation in the just concluded season.

“Lugazi Football Club has mutually parted company with Head Coach
Mugerwa and Sekweyama worked exceptionally hard throughout their time at the club, but both the results and the performances fell below the team’s targets and expectations. We thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future.”

“We thank them for their efforts and wish them well for the future.
The club is now exploring options for the Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach roles, and further updates will follow in the due course.”

Mugerwa replaced Steven Bogere at the helm of Lugazi in December last year. He holds a CAF A Coach License, started the just concluded season as the Mbarara City head coach but his stay at the club short-lived.

He has previously coached at Fire Masters, SC Villa, Soltilo Bright Stars, Police FC and has also been a key figure in the Masaza Cup and the National Schools Championship.

Ssekweyama had also previously served at SC Villa, Express FC, Maroons FC, Maroons FC, Wakiso Giants and Mbarara City.

Lugazi finished 13th on the Uganda Premier League table last term with 25 points they garnered in the 30 matches they played last term.
