Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named his squad for the AFCON 2027 Qualifiers double-header against Botswana, with defenders Elio Capradossi and Jordan Obita notable absentees.

The Belgian explained that the duo is currently injured and that is why they are not in the squad.

“You know, with Elio, he has been suffering from a long injury, but we were very hopeful because two weeks ago, he started to play, but after 30 minutes, he got injured again. I have been in communication with him, but after medical tests, it was confirmed that he is injured again,” Put said on Capradossi.

Capradossi features for FC Universitatea Cluj in Romania and started for the side against FC Arges Pitesti on Monday, 19th October, before being substituted in the 13th minute.

    On Obita’s omission:
“It is a little bit the same story with Elio. Jordan was expected to be in the selection last weekend at his club; unfortunately, he didn’t make it. I’m very honest with the players that they must be active, and it is in their best interest. So Jordan is very understanding, and we only hope he recovers fully,” he noted.

Uganda will host Botswana on 14th November 2026, before playing away on 17th November 2026.

The 30-man squad features a mix of experienced stars and foreign-based players.

Veteran goalkeeper Denis Onyango makes a return, alongside SC Villa’s David Lukwago, while Khalid Aucho, who recently retired from international football, will officially bid farewell and is included in the squad for the games.
