    David GOMBE

The National Council of Sports (NCS) has allocated UGX 5,500,000,000 (Uganda Shillings Five Billion Five Hundred Million Only) to the 18 Uganda Premier League (UPL) clubs for the Financial Year 2026/2027.

In a letter dated 18th September 2026 (Ref: NCS. 1/6) addressed to the Chairman of the Uganda Premier League Board, the NCS confirmed it has finalized onboarding the bank details for all 18 UPL clubs onto the Government Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS) and is ready to process payment.

The letter is in reference to UPL’s letter Ref: UPL/NCS/01/26 dated 2nd September 2026, which was in response to NCS’s earlier letter of 27th August 2026 requesting bank details.

According to the breakdown, each of the 18 clubs will receive an annual allocation of UGX 305,555,556.

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has released 50% of the total annual subvention budget in the first quarter of the Financial Year 2026/2027.

Accordingly, each club is entitled to UGX 152,777,778 for Quarter One (Q1) of FY 2026/2027.

Breakdown of the allocation as per Table 1:

The NCS detailed the percentage distribution of the funds:

    1. Welfare for players & Technical Team – 60%
    – Annual Distribution: UGX 183,333,333
    – Q1 Allocation: UGX 91,666,667

    2. Special Consideration for National Team Players in the Club if any. If not allocate to Item No. 3 – TID – 20%
    – Annual Distribution: UGX 61,111,111
    – Q1 Allocation: UGX 30,555,556

The government subvention is aimed at supporting club welfare and improving the professionalization of the Uganda Premier League.
