Reigning champions Vipers SC suffered a shock defeat in their 2026/27 StarTimes Uganda Premier League opener, losing 1-0 to neighbours Entebbe UPPC under the lights at St. Mary’s Stadium on Friday night.
Abdallah Mubiru’s Printers, written off by many before kick-off due to six key injuries, produced a disciplined defensive display and hit the Venoms on the counter to ruin Denis Lavagne’s first league game in charge.
Bady Dalysva’s own goal in the 34th minute was the difference between the two sides.
Entebbe UPPC were dominant most so in the first half and could have extended their lead through Ibrahim Orit who had two golden opportunities to double their lead.
The result ends Vipers’ unbeaten run at home stretching back to last season and puts their quest to become the first side since SC Villa to win three league titles in a row into scrutiny.
For Entebbe UPPC, it was sweet revenge and only their second ever victory over Vipers in eight meetings.
The Venoms will now need to quickly regroup ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary round clash against FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania next week, while Entebbe UPPC will host BUL FC in their next league outing full of confidence.
