The inaugural edition Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Run will be held on Sunday, 10th May 2026 with the main event in Kampala city.
The run will also take place across various locations around the country in Kitgum, Rwamanja, Kyaka, Kotido and Yumbe.
The maiden ADRA Run is under the theme “Run! Save Her future” targeted towards raising support for the vulnerable girl child, particularly in Agago District, Northern Uganda.
The ADRA Uganda Country Director Elder John Mwanza addressed the media at the Kampala offices on Thursday, 23rd April 2026.
Elder Mwanza notified that at least Ug.Shs 200,000,000 is needed to help the vulnerable children gain school re-entry and mentorship kits for adolescent mothers, dignity kits and reusable pads for school-going girls, life skills and entrepreneurship training for vulnerable girls, safe spaces in schools and health facilities for psycho-social care.
“The ADRA run is to raise awareness for the vulnerable girl child, improve adolescent health. This run is rooted in our advocacy campaign. It is not only a sports event, but it is a way of turning public attention into public responsibility. To the running community, every kilometer run matters for the girl child.” Stated Elder John Mwanza, Country Director ADRA Uganda
The kits go for Ug.Shs 35,000 per head and sold at the ADRA head offices and different locations.
Funds raised will go towards re-enrolling out-of-school girls in secondary education and distributing menstrual health kits addressing two of the most critical barriers to girls staying in school.
Impact Targets
• 100 out-of-school girls re-enrolled and retained in secondary education through school fees, scholastic materials, and retention support
• 1,000 menstrual health kits distributed to address absenteeism and school dropout
• 1,100 girls in total supported through access to education and menstrual health
The Problem We Are Solving
• 25% of girls aged 15–19 in Uganda have begun childbearing (UNICEF, 2024)
• Nearly 1 in 4 girls is married before age 18, a key driver of permanent school dropout
• In Agago District, up to 28% of registered pregnancies are among adolescents — above the national average of 24%
• Over 250,000 girls become pregnant annually in Uganda; fewer than 20% return to formal education
